We Need Support! Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Allan Davis. I am President of the Board of Directors of
the Sunshine Connection. The Sunshine Connection is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and public charity established in July of 1995. Founded by Judy Thompson, the Sunshine Connection is the only Consumer-Run Organization (CRO) serving persons with severe and persistent mental illness in Topeka.
The Sunshine Connection served 3,029 consumers in 2020, an average daily attendance of 28 consumers, despite the restrictions placed upon us by the COVID-19 pandemic, starting in March 2020. We were open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for a total of 1,041.5 hours in 2020.
We offer the following services, free of charge, to our consumers:
*Rides to medication appointments *Educational and Recreational Groups *Community Field Trips
*Delivery of food during pandemic * Peer Counseling *Healthy meals *Holiday Activities *Rides to pick up medications *Outdoor Summer Events *Friendships *Volunteer Opportunities
*Social Events and Parties *Community Outreach *Transportation
We provide transportation to pick up our members, bring them to the Sunshine Connection and take them home. Some of our members who are able to do so take the bus, but most of our members require assistance with transportation. Some are physically challenged. We also pick up members from the Nursing Facilities for Mental Health (NFMHs). Most of our members live on Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and do not have cars.
We purchased a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan in 2020. We currently owe about $5,000 on it and are trying to pay it off.
The Sunshine Connection is totally funded by grants and donations.
